My brothers and sisters in Christ, good morning! Today, as we continue our Lenten journey together, I am offering a reflection by St.  Saint John Chrysostom.  St. John was A rchbishop of Constantinople, and was an important Early Church Father and Doctor of the Church. He was known for his preaching and public speaking. During Lent, we are asked to devote ourselves to seeking the Lord in prayer and reading Scripture , to service by  giving alms , and to practice self-control through  fasting .    Today, let us focus on our quest to be more united in Christ through prayer. This reflection is wonderful! It gave me inspiration...I hope the same for you! Until next time... In His peace! Deacon Ward From a homi

Mater Dei Parish                                    February 27, 20 20                                                                           JMJ My brothers and sisters in Christ, welcome! Yesterday, Ash Wednesday, we began a season of great significance in our faith life...the liturgical season of Lent. Beginning with Ash Wednesday, we enter into a period of forty days...a season of reflection and preparation. We prepare ourselves by replicating Jesus Christ's sacrifice and  withdrawal into the desert for forty days. The practices of Lent are threefold: Prayer, fasting, and  alms giving. Do your best...cultivate holiness!  Do your best to bring Christ ever closer...to be truly united in Him! I am including an article today titled,  "Don't Waste Your Lent: 7 Ways to Have a Good Lent" . This is from THE CATHOLIC GENTLEMAN website. It's a bit long, but worth the read.  Thank you Jayne Bidwell for finding this article...I hope i

Mater Dei Parish                                            February 19, 2020       JMJ Good morning my brothers and sisters in Christ! I thought today I would bring to you a reflection on the reality of "nice" people versus "awful" people.  As a child, my family and I would watch Bishop Fulton Sheen on PRIME TIME TV ...yes, prime time TV. Do you think you would see this on prime time TV in this day and culture? Don't think so. Bishop Sheen is known for his preaching and especially his work on television; he is a renowned theologian...and his humor is delightful. Just click below to begin. But, before we begin...Let us Pray: Lord, as a new day dawns send the radiance of your light to shine in our hearts. Make us true to your teaching;  keep us free from error and sin.  We ask this through Christ our Lord. In His peace. Deacon Ward

J esus, Mary and Joseph! My brothers and sisters in Christ, today, Thursday, February 13, 2020, I begin this part of my journey where I will offer thoughts, reflections, prayers, and anything else I may feel relevant to the life and light of our Lord, and to our own lives as well. Bear with me as try to understand the techy stuff involved to make this all work.  I pray that this blog may help to enrich your faith life! In this busy and strident world where there is so much division...we call to Christ to bring us together. I begin today with a simple prayer by  Basil Hume called  "Prayer for Unity" ...                                                    Lord Jesus Christ                                                   you said                                                   may they all be one, just as, the Father,                                                   you are in me and I am in you,
