Yes, my brothers and sisters in Christ it's
that time!
We are entering into a period of great
meditation!
We are all called to place ourselves at the
foot of the Holy Cross...a call for repentance and a reminder
of our own mortality.
As Catholics we know who and where God is.
Because Jesus took on our weak and mortal
nature, we can receive what is his...we become the very righteousness of God.
"A clean heart create for me, O God."
For all our parish Lenten services please go to the Mater Dei website for a complete schedule.

First things first...
Continuing to remember all of our
priests and deacons in our prayers...
"Gracious and loving God,
we thank you for the gift of our priests and deacons. Through them, we experience your presence in the sacraments.
Help our priests and deacons to be strong in their vocations. Set their souls on fire with love of your people.
Grant them the wisdom, understanding, and strength they need to follow in the footsteps of Jesus. Inspire them with the vision of your Kingdom.
Give them the words they need to spread the Gospel.
Allow them to experience joy in their ministry.
Help them to become instruments of your divine grace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns as our Eternal Priest."
Amen..

Happy St. Valentine's Day!
What is love? Love is an act of the will...more accurately, the willing of the good of another.
To love is nothing less than wanting what is good for someone else and...here's the important part...then to act on that desire.
Real love is the crossing over of the confines of our own needs and desires, and embracing the other's good for the other's sake.
It's an escape from the black hole of the ego...which tends to draw everything around it into itself.

Thomas Merton
For contemplation I offer you the spiritual writings of
Thomas Merton...monk, poet, spiritual writer and activist...
Spiritual lesson of the day...
"Keep your eyes clean and your ears quiet and your mind serene. Breathe God's air.
Work, if you can, under His sky.
But if you have to live in a city and work among machines and ride in the subways and eat in a place where the radio makes you deaf with spurious news and where the food destroys your life and the sentiments of those around you poison your heart with boredom, do not be impatient, but accept it as the love of God and a seed of solitude planted in your soul.
If you are appalled by those things, you will keep your appetite for the healing silence of recollection.
But meanwhile...keep your sense of compassion for the men who have forgotten the very concept of solitude.
You, at least, know that it exists and that it is the source of peace and joy.
You can still hope for such joy. They don't even hope for it any more."
