Deacon Ward’s Daily Message
Monday April 6, 2020

Good morning my brothers and sisters in Christ!

"Life and physical health are precious gifts entrusted to us by God. We must take reasonable care of them, taking into account the needs of others and the common good." Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC:) 2288

Let us begin with prayer:

O Jesus, I come before you
at the beginning of this day.
I gaze at your face, I look upon
your side pierced by the lance.
Your wounded heart speaks
to me of God's love poured out for us.
Take, Lord, and receive
my heart: that the words of faith
that I speak, the works of justice
I would do, my joys and sufferings.
When I come to the Eucharistic altar,
gather my offerings to your own
for the life of the world.
At the end of the day, place me with Mary,
your mother, and all the saints by your
side, forever surrounded by your love. Amen.

We are now nearing the end of our Lenten journey, beginning the path of Holy Week. This particular Lenten season has been different, to put it mildly.

Today, as we enter into Holy Week, the questions Jesus asks of us are quite simple. Are we ready to walk the path that lies ahead, to love without ceasing, to set aside division and seek unity, to empty ourselves, bring our pain and our grief and our fear to the Cross? And are we seeing the pain that our neighbors are bringing to the same Cross?

We mustn't forget to pray for our priests!   It has been wonderful and inspiring to witness the efforts of our priests in making sure our spiritual needs are met...thank you Fr. Rijo, Fr. Deniskingsley, and Fr. James!

From now on, each day, I will include "Pray for Our Priests" and "Pray for our Deacons":

Today, we pray for Fr. Rod Oliver Saligan of our diocese...and also for Deacon John Guarino.

"Eternal Father, we lift up to you these and all the priests, deacons of the world.
Sanctify them, heal and guide them.
Mold them into the likeness and holiness
of your Son, Jesus, the Eternal High Priest.
May their lives be pleasing to you.
In Jesus' name, we pray." Amen.

Don't forget to check out our Mater Dei website:
(https://materdeivermont.com/ for the Mass schedule, devotions, etc. Also, don't forget your weekly parish gift...it can be dropped off at the parish rectory, by mail or  online...https://materdeivermont.com/. Thank you!

No new announcements from our parish or the diocese today.

The parish is offering the movie : "The Passion of the Christ" over two evenings...this  evening and tomorrow evening. You can join in watching by calling the rectory for more information about time and  how to participate.

This is a difficult time; many are experiencing great anxiety. Know that your faith in God is paramount to all things of this earth.
Please take care of yourself...and your loved ones.
Pray...and pray some more.

"All powerful God,
by the suffering and death of your Son,
strengthen and protect us in our weakness.
We ask this through Christ, our Lord." Amen.

Until next time...
In His peace.
